It has highly been anticipated that Anfield is the home of football comebacks but Atletico Madrid would have none of that as they rewrite the story on Tuesday night when they defeated Liverpool in style
Liverpool are being tagged the “king of comebacks” in European football when they overturned a 3:0 first leg first deficit at the Nu Camp and win Barcelona 4:0 at Anfield.
Playing with one of the world’s defensive teams Atletico Madrid, the red had hoped of yet another comeback at Anfield after being defeated in the first leg but ended up being humiliated on home soil.
The red got the opening in 43′ minutes through Wijaldum before the end of half time. Liverpool have pushed harder to get more goals but were denied access by Jan Oblak who was very active in post.
Roberto Firmino, known for his important goal scoring, has proved that again when he scored the second goal in 94′ minutes during extra time for Liverpool.
However, this victory was short lived as brace from Llorente in 97′ and 105+1 minutes respectively had put Atleti in front following an awful goalkeeping from Andrian.
In the second half of extra time Alvaro Morata has scored the third goal for the Spanish club to deepen the reds woes.
Liverpool’s hope of winning the champions league back-to-back has however ended on a sad note as Atletico Madrid defeated them back-to-back
