Coronavirus otherwise known as the COVID- 19 has is a global epidemic that has ravaged the entire world.
The pace at which the disease is fast spreading and killing thousands of lives has made it difficult for the whole world to contain it. Medical doctors and some professional bodies are working tremendously to find a cure for the deadly disease.
In their quest to find a solution to this sickness, the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO), CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL( CDC ) AND THE GHANA HEALTH SERVICE( GHS ) has outlined some preventive measures to follow in order to limit spreading of the disease.
- Avoid Shaking of hands and hugging
- Washing of hands frequently with soap
under running water. - Practice social distancing
- Don’t touch your face, eyes, nose or
mouth with unwashed hands. - Avoid contact with people.
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF THE VIRUS INCLUDE:
- Fever
- Coughing
- Shortness of breath
- Joint pain
- Stress.
The Ghana Health Service ( GHS ) has also given out some emergency numbers to reach out to should one developed a symptom.
But one thing I want to emphasize here is that some individuals or groups has taken advantage of this to raise unnecessary alarms in some communities.
CORONAVIRUS: TENSION, AND ANXIETY
What one should remember is that, before the emergence of this COVID -19, there are some people with underlying health issues as the ones enlisted above.
In some communities which I want to keep anonymous for security purposes, this has become rampant. The moment one complain of even headache, some people will call radio station to report that the person is infected with coronavirus. This can result in dejection, isolation and depression which might even kill more than the coronavirus so the public should be educated on the consequences of this act.
CORONAVIRUS AND INCREMENT OF COMMODITIES
It has become a norm in the human race for one person to capitalize on the current situation of the other to make gain and this is exactly what some Ghanaians are doing currently.
People have taken advantage of COVID -19 to increase prices of goods in the country.
The likes of hand sanitizers among some other commodities have seen tremendous increment in prices over these few months.
Even a bowl of garri which used to Gh¢ 8 has been doubled likewise the prices of other food staffs. It will be appropriate for those engaging in this act to desist from it as
doing so wouldn’t help to solve the situation at hand but rather increase it.
CORONAVIRUS AND RESTRICTION. Due to the widespread of the disease in the country, some cities have been identified as epic centres as these areas are being hit most by the disease. Notable among these cities are Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Kumasi.
In a bid to bring the widespread of the virus under control, the president of Ghana H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has on Friday night placed restriction on movement of persons within those affected areas effective from Monday, 01:00 am.
People in the affected areas might probably be faced with boredoms as they will have to be stacked in their homes but here is some few things they can engage themselves with.
