Oppong Nkrumah VS Serwaa Amihere; Mental toughness is Key.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”. Martin Luther King

GH ONE TV anchor Serwaa Amihere has been back lashed by section of social media handlers following an interview between herself and Oppong Nkrumah the information minister on Wednesday.

From the interview which has gone viral on social media, the presenter was asking the Minister about the Emile Short Commission’s report and recommendations on Ayawaso West Wuogon bye- election which doesn’t go down well with her at the end.

“There is also a growing perception that the president is not interested in punishing wrong doing in this country and the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence has been put forward as an example, why haven’t the people who participated in that violence punished yet”?.Serwaa Amihere asked.

“Which people and what was the recommendation of the punishment which has not been expected yet”? The Minister’s response

The above response from the Minister to Serwaa’s question made it appeared as though she lose control of the interview and social media users could not forgive her short coming and descended heavily on her with some questioning the criteria media houses use in recruiting their staffs.

These attitude by the critics could make the presenter frustrated and even ruin her career if she is not mentally tough. Journalists are also humans just like any other professions.

Serwaa Amihere is a human and capable of doing a mistake just like any other one can do, she has messed up but this doesn’t mean she didn’t know her job. Knowledge is not the repository of any single person and therefore those critics from social media users are uncalled for.

We should focus on the positive side of issues rather than the negative aspects.

Below are some of the comments by critics on social media;

Serwaa paaaaa. You failed the Fundamentals of journalism- research b4 interviews. And when you are caught off guard you say we should ignore the lopsided kominini of party fanatics. Sister, the same effort you put in your looks before a TV show, do same with research.

BNOSKA: SURVEY ON CREATIVE ART INDUSTRY HAS A WEAK FOUNDATION

The role of Creative art in national development cannot be underestimated. In oder to realize this role, there must be some requisite structures set up and regulated appropriately.

Unlike many other institutions in Ghana, the art industry has gotten less recognition from government. Like the western countries where art is being recognized and given support from government to boost the sector, Ghana’s case is the exact opposite.

In an interview on CTV, Creative art Consultant Mr.Benjamin Arhin known as ‘Bnoska’ has lamented the plight of the industry and says it has a weak foundation. According to him, there should be measures or strategies put in place to rescue the industry in emergency situations.

Bnoska stated that the industry has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic and just as other business sectors has incurred significant loses, the art industry is not an exception but if there is a special fund set aside, it would have been used to support the industry.

He further stressed that there should be a performer’s right where all artist could be regulated and given much recognition where necessary. In order to achieve this there must be Equity, Transparency and Accountability, he added.

PRESS BRIEFING: LOCAL LEVEL EDUCATION ON CORONAVIRUS AWARENESS

The Minister of Information, Kojo Opong Nkrumah at a press briefing on Tuesday, April 14,2020 has acknowledged the efforts of the general public in adhering to the safety measures put in place to combat spreading of COVID-19.

The Minister was also quick to admit that, while some have adhered strictly to the directives from the president, there are some people who still flaunt these rules and regulations.

There are others who doesn’t believed in all that is being said and done as far as the coronavirus or better still COVID-19 is concerned. Still in some remote areas, some people have not gotten any education on coronavirus awareness.

According to the Minister, there will be an education to engage the local people on the coronavirus awareness. This will be done by the help of the media and local authorities in various local dialects to aid better communication.

Kojo Opong Nkrumah also added that when the majority have followed the safety precautions and one person flaunt it, it put everyone at risk hence the need to encourage everyone to adhered to the safety measures.

“When everybody does the right thing and one person failed to do so, it put all of us at risk”

CORONAVIRUS AND WICKEDNESS

The law of karma state that whatever you do today will definitely come back to you either directly or indirectly.

There is also a popular saying that what goes up must surely come down. Wickedness is not only about killing someone with a knife or Cutlass but trying to earn profit through dubious means amount to wickedness.

If your entire life you didn’t get rich and you want to use the outbreak of coronavirus to enrich yourself, then I want to tell you authoritatively that even the church mouse will be richer than you.

There is a great wickedness ongoing in the country at the moment and nobody seems to be concerned. Instead of us uniting to find means of controlling the outbreak of the coronavirus, some individuals through their own selfish interest wanted to make money out of the unfortunate.

Unlike some other countries where everyone is making an effort to support in any way possible, here in our country it has become an opportunity make money. Goods are being increased across the country.
Our people are busy increasing prices of commodities day by day. This is selfish and wickedness in the highest form.

“What shall it profiteth a man if he gains the whole world for himself and his soul perished?”

Government is always at the receiving end for not putting up measures where necessary. After putting restrictions on movement of persons within Accra and other Cities which are affected most, government has not raise budget on commodities.

Why then the sudden increment of commodities across the country?

Are we helping ourselves with the situation at hand ?

Are these steps in the right direction?

“Ambassadors of poverty are
Those whose actions and inactions
Reduce their people’s expectation to nothingness….”

“Ambassadors of poverty are
All of us whose in-actions
Steal our collective joy
Because of what we should do
Which we never do
As we bargain away
Our conscience in the market place
Under the weight of poverty…”
By
Philip O.C. Umeh.

Philip Umeh, a Nigerian, an English scholar and a poem writer.
According to him, ambassadors of poverty are not the poor people on the street but all those whose actions and in-actions leads to abject poverty because of what they should have done but have refused to do so.

Instead of us cooperating to combat spreading of the virus, we use it as an opportunity to enrich ourselves. In my honest opinion, this is not a contributing factor to stop the menace. These people all constitute ambassadors of poverty and surely posterity will judge them.

CORONAVIRUS: SOME KEY THINGS TO CONSIDER

Coronavirus otherwise known as the COVID- 19 has is a global epidemic that has ravaged the entire world.

The pace at which the disease is fast spreading and killing thousands of lives has made it difficult for the whole world to contain it. Medical doctors and some professional bodies are working tremendously to find a cure for the deadly disease.

In their quest to find a solution to this  sickness, the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO), CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL( CDC ) AND THE GHANA HEALTH SERVICE( GHS ) has outlined some preventive measures to follow in order to limit spreading of the disease.

  • Avoid Shaking of hands and hugging
  • Washing of  hands frequently with soap
       under running water.
  • Practice social distancing
  • Don’t touch your face, eyes, nose or
       mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid contact with people.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF THE VIRUS INCLUDE:

  • Fever
  • Coughing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Joint pain
  • Stress.

The  Ghana Health Service ( GHS ) has  also given out some emergency numbers to reach out to should  one developed a symptom.

But one thing I want to emphasize here is that some individuals or groups has taken advantage of this to raise unnecessary alarms in some communities.

CORONAVIRUS: TENSION, AND ANXIETY
What one should remember is that, before the emergence of this COVID -19, there are some people with underlying health issues as the ones enlisted above.

In some communities which I want to keep anonymous for security purposes, this has become rampant. The moment one complain of even headache, some people will call radio station to report that the person is infected with coronavirus. This can result in dejection, isolation and depression which might even kill more than the coronavirus so the public should be educated on the consequences of this act.

CORONAVIRUS AND INCREMENT OF COMMODITIES
It has become a norm in the human race for one person to capitalize on the  current situation of the other to make gain and this is exactly what some Ghanaians are doing currently.

People have taken advantage of COVID -19 to increase prices of goods in the country.
The likes of hand sanitizers among some other commodities have seen tremendous increment in prices over these few months.

Even a bowl of garri which used to Gh¢ 8 has been doubled likewise the prices of other food staffs. It will be appropriate for those engaging in this act to desist from it as
doing so wouldn’t help to solve the situation at hand but rather increase it.

CORONAVIRUS AND RESTRICTION. Due to the widespread of the disease in the country, some cities have been identified as epic centres as these areas are being hit most by the disease. Notable among these cities are Accra, Tema, Kasoa and Kumasi.

In a bid to bring the widespread of the virus under control, the president of Ghana H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo has on Friday night placed restriction on movement of persons within those affected areas effective from Monday, 01:00 am.

People in the affected areas might probably be faced with boredoms as they will have to be stacked in their homes but here is some few things they can engage themselves with.

  • Reading of magazine or story books. * watching of movies. * Engage in a blog. * Engage in a puzzle game * Reading versus of the Bible. * Explore the various social media platforms with your smart phone for more updates.

In as much as you don’t have anything very pressing to do, stay at home.

we shall overcome. #coronacrisis. #rhabbi writes
